Odd Wren

Odd Wren is a studio of one. If you found the name on a receipt, this is where it leads.

Now out: Tomette

A note on method.

Most software is asked to do everything, and ends up doing it for no one in particular. Each app made here is given one question, and kept at it until the answer is good.

I work alone, which settles most arguments early. The only one left is whether the thing is finished. Until it is, it stays on the bench.

What leaves the bench is small: something you understand the first time you open it, and stop noticing soon after. Should it ever need explaining, write, and the person who made it will answer.

The work

Tomette.

A quiet focus timer for your Mac's menu bar.Out now

Tomette's panel during a focus session, with the task and its steps listed below the timer.Tomette's panel during a break: three minutes left, with the suggestion to stand up and stretch.
  1. It keeps time.

Focus and rest follow a rhythm you choose: twenty-five minutes and five, fifty and ten, or lengths of your own.

  2. It sends you away.

Every break arrives with a suggestion that has nothing to do with a screen. Stand up and stretch. Look at something far away. Drink some water.

  3. It holds one task.

One task, with up to five steps, stays in view until it is done. There is no list behind it waiting its turn.

Why a wren.

A wren weighs about ten grams, and can be heard from the other end of a garden.

The studio takes its name from that, and its measure.

Lately.
